Plugging a Hole

Official NaNoWriMo 2005 Participant
How are you? It's been awhile? What? Really? I'm not surprised, and that shirt? It looks great on you.

So yes, I've been somewhat delinquent in writing out here. I could bore you with the usual excuses, but you've heard them all before. I want to write again, but I've been having trouble finding my voice lately. Everything I write sucks. I read it, hate it and leave it sitting in the ether, waiting for a revision that will likely never come.

Part of the problem is focus -- I lack it. I return home from work and don't feel like doing anything, so nothing gets finished.

I pondered this last week as I surfed the 'net, trying to figure out where I left my voice (not that it was so fresh and unusual that the world can live without it), but I missed it. Then it hit me:

I need a goal.

So I'm writing a novel this month. It might suck, it might rock. Right now, it doesn't exist. I don't even really have a great idea. I did, but those bastards Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson stole it. Wedding Crashers, indeed. Fuckers.

In any case, I'm writing a book this month. I don't know if it's something I'll ever share with the world, but it's something I need to do - just to prove I can.

Wish me luck, and please, feel free to kick me in the ass if it looks like I'm lagging. Or, heck, just kick me in the ass -- I probably deserve it.

I did Nanowrimo last year - I'll have to send you the results (it's a bad Green Hornet pastiche that, one of these days, I'll turn into a proper Great American novel).

If I had 1) a steady income, and 2) lots of time, I'd do it again. This year, however, I'm giving it a rest.

Good luck!

Happy Thxgiving:
I stumbled across your blog via the True Conservative's liberals and science post.

In terms of writing, don't think about it at all; let it flow through you. I know it may sound mystical but it works. I was reading about stream of consciouness writing and basically try to relax your mind, even listen to relaxing music and breathe deeply. Then instead of figuring a story to write about with a specific topic, simply write or type what comes to your mind. I promise you will be pleased. And if you already employ this technique, please excuse my ignornance.

Regards, good luck and Happy Thxgiving:)
